Phylicia Rashad Speaks Out On Cosby Case
She played the role of Bill Cosby's wife on the sitcom The Cosby Show, and now Phylicia Rashad is stepping up to support her co-star against claims of sexual abuse.
Rashad spoke with reporters about the controversy, and opined that it is merely an attack against Cosby. Calling the sexual abuse claims a plot for the “destruction of [Cosby's] legacy.” Rashad made it clear what her position is on the matter. She expressed her beliefs that the claims have been planned out to put Cosby in a bad light and shatter his image as an iconic figure in television. Rashad also addressed the matter of Cosby's wife, Camille, who Rashad believed would not simply ignore an issue such as sexual assault on other women.
Sexual abuse claims against Cosby have been made by several women, among them, Janice Dickinson. Cosby himself has been less outspoken throughout the ordeal, as new allegations and developments continue to surface.
Sexual abuse claims that originated in 2002 and took place as recently as December 22, 2014 have plagued the actor. A total of twenty-one women have stepped forward to claim sexual assault cases against Cosby.
The claims have been affecting Cosby's career considerably. His contracts have been dropped, and his two upcoming shows in New York have been cancelled. Cosby has also lost his designation as honorary chief petty officer from the Navy, and the public has taken action as well. Cosby's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles has been vandalized with the word “rapist.”
